fckyeaharthistory: Andy Warhol - Orange Car Crash Fourteen Times, 1963. Silkscreen ink on synthetic polymer paint on two canvases From the Museum of Modern Art, NYC: In 1962 Warhol began to cull images of tragic frontpage news stories. He silkscreened this image of a fatal car accident fourteen times. “I tried doing them by hand,” he said, “but I find it easier to use a screen. This way, I don’t have to work on my objects at all.” Warhol’s distance from the work’s making parallels his diffusion of this gruesome image through repetition and deterioration. About the addition of “a blank canvas, the same background color,” Warhol claimed, perhaps ironically, “The two are designed to hang together however the owner wants… . It just makes them bigger and mainly makes them cost more.”

From MarinaCityOnline.com: On Friday, September 5, 1969, a crowd estimated at 1,500 – mostly men – gathered on the Marina City plaza to watch 14 women drop their bras into a basket. It was part of a “Braless Friday” demonstration by a local radio station. It does not sound like any of the women actually took off their bras. They came to the demonstration with bras in hand or in their purse, or in two cases the bras were tossed from a balcony above.
